Half-Day Aswan Tour: Kalabshah Temple and High Dam
Departure from your hotel in Aswan for a half-day excursion to visit the Aswan High Dam which tames the waters of the Nile and the exceptional historical site of Kalabchah on the shores of Lake Nasser.
The Aswan High Dam
the high dam is a gigantic achievement considered at its construction in 1971 as the largest dam in the world. A panoramic and spectacular unobstructed view overlooks the huge Lake Nasser, the largest man-made lake in the world which is 500 km long.
Then we will take a motor boat to visit the site of Kalabcha on Lake Nasser.
Kalabsha Temple
The Temple of Kalabshahis within sight of the High Dam on Lake Nasser. This temple, whose foundations date back to the reign of Amenhotep II in the 15th century BC, was built during the reign of the Roman Emperor Augustus on a structure erected under Ptolemy IX. The Kalabcha temple has all the classic elements of a Greco-Roman era temple but ultimately it is a rich combination of depictions that include Egyptian and Roman subjects such as images of Roman emperors and pharaohs worshiping the Egyptian gods. This Temple was dedicated to the Egyptian God of Nubian origin, Mandoulis. He appears in the form of a bird with a human head, or of a young child placed on a lotus: he embodies solar youth. This deity had considerable worship in the Ptolemaic period. This temple has a large pylon, connected to the rest of the complex by a wall, thus providing an enclosed space like a courtyard. Stairs lead to a second floor, offering a spectacular view of the lake towards the top dam.
