St Simeon Monastery
St Simeon Monastery is located on the left bank of the Nile in Aswan, near the Nile on the edge of the desert. This monastery, erected in the 6th century AD. It is a set of buildings surrounded by a spectacular stone and brick wall 8m high in the shape of a trapeze, intended to protect the monks from Bedouin incursions. This gives the monastery the appearance of a fortress. It contains several buildings: church, monks' lodgings, etc. where Coptic style paintings are kept. Some monks once lived there, but it was abandoned in the 13th century due to lack of water.
