Overview
This full day tour proposes to leave Luxor to enjoy a different and picturesque landscape to visit two major historical sites:
the temple of Denderah and
that of Abydos .
Itinerary
Dendera
The historical site of Dendera is 60 km north of Luxor. The temple is one of the latest architectural achievements but it is the best preserved monument in Egypt. Begun in the Greek period and completed in the Roman period, it is dedicated to the goddess Hathor in the form of a cow. She is the goddess of love, beauty, music and joy. The temple of Dendera is characterized by its astronomical ceiling and its spiral staircase which leads to the terrace where there are several chapels, among which, the famous chapel of Zodiac
Abydos
Abydos is 160 km north of Luxor (100 km north of Dendera). Abydos was a sacred pharaonic city where the tomb of Osiris is located according to Osirian legend. The myth of Osiris was so widespread that thousands of pilgrims came to Abydos to pray and be treated there. It contains the fabulous temple of Seti1, father of Ramses2 characterized by its similar architecture, its very refined sculptures and its well-preserved colors.
