Monastery of the Romans (Deir El-Baramus in Egyptian). One of the oldest sites in the region with five churches. According to tradition, it is said that two Roman priests fleeing the persecution of Christians lived in this desert valley and established this monastery there.
Monastery of the Syrians (Deir El-Suryanis in Egyptian). This monastery owes its name to the Syrian monks who lived there in the 8th century. There is the Church of the Virgin Mary with its exquisite murals.
Monastery of St. Bishoi (Deir Anba Bishoi in Egyptian). This monastery is named after the patron saint Bishoi who lived alone in this place. It contains five churches, the main one being that of Saint Bishoi where his body rests. It also has two charming chapels.
